Nuts for Cheese at Grace

I was kindly invited to capture a special collaboration dinner between Margaret Coons from Nuts for Cheese and Angela Murphy from Grace Restaurant. The dinner included 6 courses featuring all of Nuts for Cheese classic flavours.

My favourite kind of projects are those where work and play become one! This was one of those nights. It was such a pleasure to enjoy dinner and chat with friends, while capturing some of the best moments of the evening.

The menu included:

-Micro cheese board with Nuts for Cheese red rind, crudités, crackers and pickled nuts. -French onion soup with Nuts for Cheese chipotle cheddar
-Pear and endive salad with Nuts for Cheese blue cheese
-Dulse marinated artichoke hearts with Nuts for Cheese artichoke and herbs, black olive paint and micro herbs
-Black garlic and herb agnolotti with braised mattock and shiitake mushrooms and leek ash tile
-Pineapple and Nuts for Cheese “un-brie-lievable” cheesecake, coconut gelato and fermented orange sugar

Photoshoot Challenges:

The first seating started at 5:30 pm, and since we’re getting into Spring, the days started to get longer. I was hoping to capture all the images before sunset, but I did’t calculate the slower pace of a set 6-course dinner. For the first half of the photoshoot I combined natural light with an external camera flash as a filler. For the second half, I started loosing the natural light, so the harder shadows of the camera flash started being more noticeable. I was forced to increase the ISO to around 600, considerably reducing the image quality. Sometimes travelling lightweight wins over assembling complex lighting setups.
