The Spence project

The Spence family has been tirelessly working on their new experiential farm project for years. What started as some crazy ideas inside Paul Spence’s head has been little by little becoming a blooming reality. Paul was born and raised as a farm boy in a 170-acre property on the outskirts of Chatham-Kent, where he learned a thing or two from his father, who now grows commodity corn. Along the way, Paul’s curiosity drove him to explore different avenues, which eventually allowed him to find his “happy place” within the food system. Once a farm boy, always a farm boy. The only difference is that, against his father’s philosophy, Paul chose the sustainability route—becoming obsessed about food literacy, regeneration and revival of traditional farming practices.

I can’t share many details of the Spence’s new project at the moment, but I can certainly share some of the photos we took at their farm to be included on their upcoming website.

Think about bugs, butterflies and birds. Now think about the places where they hang out, like beautiful flowers, lush trees, colourful native weeds, river streams and flavourful vegetable crops. Lastly, imagine a picturesque red barn standing in the middle of it all, where you’ll find Paul, Sara and their two young children, Joah and Vivi, smiling at you, eager to share their inspiring family farm story!
